Designing With Web - Part 3 : Week 1

"Reinvent career guidance experience for students based on gaming"

Group 90

Project 1: A guidance test RPG

Context

The concept of this game is simple : it is a role-playing game using a personality and orientation test for students to discover career guidance in a different way.

Who ? Where? When? Why ?

Target

For whom?

We would like to target students from secondary school to higher education. They usually are between 16 and 25 years old. However, this device can also be used, on the fringes, by adults seeking professional reconversion.

Service offered

what? how?

Everybody knows how it is boring to have a rdv with a guidance counsellor. They are oftenly more enclined to hold small talks with their colleagues drinking cofee, or barely able to guide you using informations about the labor market from the 1980's.
How lucky you are when they give you a paper sheet in order to take a guidance test, most of the time extracted from ONISEP website, that are biased and meaningless even if they are funny. Things must be changed.

We choosed to reinvent career guidance thanks to the elaboration of a guidance test RPG.

Our game aims to analyse the player behavior through a large variety of in-game situations. Namely, the algorithm will be able to collect data about the player, based on his avatar decisions, behaviors, way of solving problems or interacting with others in the map, etc. The scenario will be evolutionary in order to make the scope more specific and more narrow, to test the user deeper in his personality each time. At the end of the game, our algorithm can offer a detailled and meaningful analyse of the player personality, so it could make the most trustable and inspiring career guidance diagnosis that we ever seen.
You easily understand why a paper guidance test is totally biased :

  • The diversity and the number of questions asked are insufficient
  • Written questions introduced several bias
  • Our ego prevent us to be perfectly honnest while describing ourselves

  • What we want is to make the player acting in the game as he probably would have done in real life. Our algorithm will be able to make sense to the way the player is embodying his avatar.

We already thought to different additional contents that could make the game more interesting :

  • the opportunity to upload and to work on your own CV
  • the game deliver you a reference code ( depending on what we did during the game, for what sectors you seemed to be passionated, etc ) which will be meaningful for recruiters
  • your game experience would be valuable in your CV
  • you can gain experience points by making researchs about a job, or by doing an internship
  • we can extend the game, with an online mode, to a new and innovative working social network where recruiters and job seekers will be able to meet each other and to exchange then

  • We are convinced that our proposal will be enjoyed by our target audience and will be profitable for the whole society, particularly by modernising career guidance, but also the entire labor market and the recruitment methods. We have to adapt to our times, and our project is here to start the transition.

    Project 2: Virtual business immersion

    Context

    when? where? who? why?

The concept of this game is to allow students to make up their mind about their career guidance thanks to the immersion in professional world with VR glasses.

    Target

    for whom?

The idea is to reach students from 16 to 25 years old. At the end of high school and when they are entering university, their outlooks about jobs are blurred. They have just heard about some notions but nothing is really concrete. If we take the example of business schools, they may have heard about finance, marketing or management but they don't really know what is behind these notions
More precisely students at secondary school but also at high school. In fact, it may be interesting for this two segments to discover the environment of a company:

  • For the secondary school students, they are looking for the professional area they would like to study, so it may be interesting for them to discover the conditions of working of this area.
  • For the university students, they are looking for the profession they would like to do in a company, so it may also be interesting for them to discover different professions into a specific professional area.

  • The offer is answering the need of the student to have much more concrete information about the career guidance and the professional world. It is no more only words, it is also images, movements, immersions, reality and discovery. Then, they could make up their minds easier. As a result, their choices of career guidance may be correctly justified.

    Service offered

    what? how?

In an evolving global workplace, it is increasingly important for graduates and school-leavers to possess an understanding of the job market, their relevant skills, and career progression paths.

However, a survey conducted by CREDOR for the Cnesco reveals the importance to improve the support of students in the identification of their personal tastes and the connection with professions and professional areas. Since students are placing in first place the definition of their personal tastes, of their real motivations, they think that they have not much support about this point. Also, they would like more information about professions, including with meetings between students and professionals.

Thanks to this game, the students are allowed to discover different professional environments with VR glasses. The companies that the student can visit will depend on the sponsorings that we will obtain, but we can already think about some professional environments :

  • Hospital
  • Industry
  • Construction and public works
  • Bank
  • Shops
  • Engineering
  • IT
  • ...

The aim of these services is to restore confidence in career guidance for students and to stop the idea of this step as a constraint. Furthermore, the students may gain in confidence in their professional choices and be less stressed about it. Because we never know if the way we have decided to take is the right way.
